Faire le pont is a French expression that literally means “make the bridge”.
It means that you take a day off between a public holiday and a weekend.
For example, 1st of May is a public holiday in France and falls on a Tuesday.
You can take the Monday off (today) and get a four-days weekend.
You can then say: “Je fais le pont du 1er mai.”
