Être en train de

Ongoing action in French

Present progressive in French

ÊTRE EN TRAIN DE (+ verbe à l’infinitif) s’utilise pour parler d’une action en cours au moment où l’on parle. = être occupé à faire quelque chose

ÊTRE EN TRAIN DE (+ infinitive verb) is used to talk about an ongoing action. = to be busy doing something, to be in the middle of doing something

For English speakers:

Be careful, you can ONLY use ÊTRE EN TRAIN DE to emphasise an ACTION IN PROGRESS. You can not use it as an all-purpose equivalent of the English present progressive.
