La taille, le poids et la superficie avec le verbe faire
Pour parler de la taille, du poids et de la superficie à l’oral dans le langage courant et familier, on utilise très souvent le verbe FAIRE.
When speaking about size, weight or area in standard or colloquial French, we often use the verb FAIRE.
- L’appartement fait 50 m2. = The flat is 50 m2.
- Elle fait du 40. = She’s a size 40.
- Il fait du 43. = He wears/takes a size 43 shoe.
- Il fait 1m30. = He’s 1,30m high.
- La tour Eiffel fait 324 m de haut. = The Eiffel tower is 324 m high.
- Tu fais 60 kg. = You weigh 60 kg.
Mais à l’écrit ou dans le langage soutenu, on dira plutôt :
But in writing and in formal language, we would rather use:
- Elle met du 40. = She wears a size 40.
- Il chausse du 43. = He wears/takes a size 43 shoe.
- Il mesure 1m30. = He’s 1,30m high.
- La tour Eiffel mesure 324 m de haut. = The Eiffel tower is 324 m high.
- Tu pèses 60 kg. = You weigh 60 kg.
- L’appartement a une superficie de 50 m2. = The flat is 50 m2.
